Information Sessions
Central Coast Prems are excited to announce that we have a new venue for our meetings. All premmie babies and their families are welcome to attend our monthly meetings, which involve informative discussions from guest speakers, fun activities, and the chance to share with other families over morning tea.
Meetings are the first Wednesday of each month in the meeting room of the Central Coast Rescue head office, Rose St Wyong, from 10am – 12pm. Gold coin donations are welcome to help cover the costs of meeting. For further information please phone Kim on 0448993683.
NB – With the onset of the RSV season beginning soon, please be particularly mindful of only attending the group if you and your child/ren are well. What may seem like a mild cold to us may mean a serious illness for our precious premmie babies so please consider them.
Info Sessions for Semester 1, 2010
Wednesday 5th May – Glenn-Marie Wright from Yarran Early Intervention will be hosting an interactive play session, with discussion on how we can use toys and play to help develop our children’s skills. This proved to be a very popular session in 2009 so don’t miss out!
Wednesday 2nd June – Judith McIntyre, paediatric physiotherapist from Gateway Child and Family Health who also services Gosford Hospital SCN, will talk with us about issues related to prematurity and will share ideas on how to encourage our premmie baby’s development.
Wednesday 7th July – Deb McTaggart, maternity and SCN social worker, will look with us at how going through a premature birth can affect you and your family.
Some things to remember:
In order to ensure the smooth running of our monthly meetings, some basic “guidelines” have been developed, and include:
- We are a parent group and as such are not experts. People are welcome to share their experiences and express their opinions, but each case is individual. Please check with your health care provider for any health advice you may need.
- Some babies who attend the meetings may be very young or fragile. Please allow these babies “space”, be aware of basic hygiene (eg. Washing hands), avoid attending the meeting if you or your child/ren are sick, and remember that for these mums it can be scary to bring their new bubbies out in public.
- Each parent is responsible for their own children during the meeting.
- Occasionally we have people attending who have severe food allergies, and for this reason morning tea is provided for the group. If you or your child/ren have food allergies, please let us know so we can work to provide a safe and relaxing time for you.
- We want to create a safe place for people to share their experiences. Please maintain confidentiality for all members—what is shared in the group remains in the group.
